You should bookmark and read the Houston Chronicle Online to get up-to-the minute updates.

Also check out the articles pasted below on how people are coping with the disruptions to their modern technology:

Most in Houston area still without power tonight

TV stations opt to offer wall-to-wall coverage of Ike

Houston port closed, airports reopen

Continue to keep all of them in your thoughts and prayers.

With Hurricane Gustav bearing down on the Gulf Coast the need to communicate could not be greater.

The major providers of cell phone service seem to have learned from Hurricane Katrina, and are prepared this time to keep the flow of information going throughout the storm.

Just keep all of the folks in the Gulf Coast region in your prayers.

Just think about all of the modern technology that you will be using today.

Cooking and still burning up food on your new modern gas grill.  :-)

Listening to music downloaded on your iPod that you place into your iHome.  So you can listen to all of your "old school" jams!  :-)

Calling or sending text messages to folks on your new iPhone to ask them to bring the stuff you forgot to pick up at the store yesterday. :-)

There are so many more things that will touch your life today as you celebrate this day of our country's Independence.

Just remember that the most important thing you can do today is to enjoy the day with all of your family, friends, and love ones.

HAPPY 4th of JULY!!!

Weather_May 2008.jpgIn the aftermath of the bad weather in the Midwest and the South, including my home state of North Carolina, it was very clear that the improved weather technology and its ability to predict storms has changed the way folks are notified and how the stories are reported.

The improved technology has helped to save lives, but it has lead broadcasters to err on the side of caution.  Ironically, this has many TV viewers upset at the interruptions of their favorite shows by what many see as over-the-top notification.
