Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD)
Definition: A synchronous protocol of all GSM networks and handsets. It is generally associated with real time or instant messaging phone services.
There is no store-and-forward capability, as is typical of other short message protocols. Response times for interactive USSD-based services are generally quicker than those used for SMS.
